An electric power delivery system has power lines to carry current and transformers to change its voltage. Step-up transformers boost voltages so that current can be transmitted long distances. Substations and transformers reduce voltages to levels needed by consumers. Some industrial users and transportation systems that require high voltages have their own transformers.
